The Thursday Club's 84th Annual Dinner Benefits Boys & Girls Club — More Than $90,000 Raised for the "Positive Place for Kids"

Mt. Kisco and Tarrytown, NY (May 11, 2007) — More than 200 community supporters, area corporations, and Club board members recently gathered at The Thursday Club's 84th annual dinner dance to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Tarrytown Center recently held at Tarrytown House in Tarrytown, New York.

This year's Thursday Club's dinner raised more than $90,000 for "The Positive Place for Kids." Funds raised by The Thursday Club at this year's benefit will enable the Boys & Girls Club's Tarrytown Center to maintain and expand quality programs as its membership continues to grow. The Tarrytown Center, which opened in 2002 at the Community Opportunity Center, serves approximately 600 children from low-income families. Some Tarrytown Club programs include a summer camp, a computer lab, homework assistance, crafts, sports, and anti-drug programs. Hot meals are served daily and bags of food are distributed for children to take home to their families on weekends.

The Thursday Club's annual event featured live and silent auctions of many fine items as well as tickets to various entertainment and sporting events. The annual gala was co-chaired by Marjorie Hone and Laura Seaman, both residents of Irvington. Special guests were Erin Malloy, Mayor of Irvington and former Congressman Peter Peyser, also from Irvington.

Betsy Wilson, President of The Thursday Club, said that, "We reached out to the Club when we learned that their Tarrytown location nearly closed due to increasing financial burdens associated with running the facility and difficulty in accessing local funding to help defray these operating costs. We are delighted to support such a vital community resource for youth and their families in the Tarrytown area."

"The Thursday Club's philanthropic efforts are an inspiration to our community at large and we are delighted to have been selected as this year's honoree by this distinguished group," said Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. "We are extremely grateful for their endorsement of our program and generous support which provides much needed funding for the Tarrytown site. We look forward to continuing to provide quality programs and expand our offerings for the children of Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, and the many Northern Westchester communities we serve for many years to come."
